Building Your Vocabulary

Much of what we do in life requires tools. At school you may use a wide array of tools—from pens and pencils to tablets and calculators, from microscopes and Bunsen burners to paint brushes and power saws. With the right tools, you can build your knowledge of the world, create art, make things you need, and mend what is broken. With the right tools, you can do just about anything and everything.

Your vocabulary is one of your most valuable tools, enabling you to read, think, write, and communicate. So expanding your vocabulary is important. The more words you know, the better you will be able to think, learn, and build new ideas. Strengthening your vocabulary will broaden your world. This chapter will show you how.
